Setting up

What the app needs, and why

• Usage Access, so the app can tell which app is in front. It is the only way Android offers to do this. It does not reveal anything about what is inside that app.
• Display over other apps, so the knight can sit on top of what you are using.
• Notifications, on Android 13 and up. Android requires a visible ongoing notification for any app that keeps working in the background.

The knight never appears

Work through these in order:

• Check all three permissions above are granted, on the Home tab.
• Check the app you are opening is actually ticked in your tracked apps list. Nothing outside that list is watched.
• Give it a few seconds. The knight appears shortly after the tracked app comes to the front, not instantly.

Doom Saver is missing from the Usage Access list

This happens when the app was installed from outside the Play Store. Android 13 and up hides sensitive settings for those installs behind a safeguard. Go to Settings, then Apps, then Doom Saver, open the menu in the corner, and choose Allow restricted settings. The app will then show up in the Usage Access list.

Why is there a permanent notification?

Android requires it. An app is not allowed to keep counting in the background without one. It is the price of the timer staying accurate while you are inside another app, and it is not something we can turn off.

Using it

He is in the way

Drag him anywhere on screen. He stays where you put him.

The timer reset

Totals are per app and per day, and they reset at midnight. That is the design. Yesterday's numbers are still in Stats if you have Pro.

He will not stop being the reaper

Once you pass ninety minutes in an app, he stays that way for the rest of the day in that app. There is no way to talk him out of it. Tomorrow he is calm again.

He talks too much, or too little

How often he speaks is yours to set, on the Home tab.

Purchases

What Pro adds

Your own task list, your own phrases, your face behind the visor, and Stats. Everything else in the app is free and stays free.

I paid and Pro is still locked

Open the app while online and give it a moment. Purchases are confirmed with Google Play on launch. If it is still locked after a restart, email us.

Refunds and cancelling

Both are handled by Google Play, not by us. Cancel a subscription in the Google Play app under Payments and subscriptions. Refund requests go through Google Play support.

Privacy

Can Doom Saver see my screen?

No. Android tells it which app is in the foreground and nothing else. It cannot read, record or transmit what is on your screen, and it never asks for the permissions that would let it. The privacy policy sets out the whole picture.

Deleting your account

In the app, under Account on the Home tab, or by email. The account deletion page has the detail.
